The Secret: Affiliate Marketing
It is done by plotting links on your website that helps your affiliate generate sales or leads to their site. The idea is to plot the link at a place where the surfer will show least resistance to buy. Every sale or lead that you generate will draw cheques to your account!
Here are a few ways in which you can do this:
Embed your sales: Internet is one space where people go looking for free stuff… free videos, free songs, free reports, free images, free eBooks, free cards and so on…! Now, this is an attractive place to plant your link. Amongst the many free books, place an offer for a book or related movie that you want to sell. The surfer will be tempted to buy.
Such embedded links work well for two reasons: One, they target the exact customer they want to sell to. Secondly, he is hungry for more. He has realized his need for the product and so, when you offer it to him at a price, he will not show much resistance in shelling out the money.
The idea here is to create valuable content on your site, which the customer is ready to pay for. For instance, free study material for an academic course. Then, when he gets an offer of a similar product at a price, he will be willing to buy… for example, a course book.
Replace his boredom/ irritation: How do you feel when you are surfing through a site and in one of the links you visit, a 404 error page appears? In less technical terms: a “This page cannot be displayed” message pops up! You hate it, right? So why make it irritating for your customers too? Use the space to communicate and sell your affiliate’s products… use it to make yourself some money!
These error pages can be easily edited on your website. So, instead of giving them an error, give them an offer.

“Hey! Sorry for the inconvenience. But we would like to compensate by offering you a package tour to Switzerland at a very special vacation price!”
Isn’t that refreshing? Most visitors will be tempted to click on the attractive link, rather than the ‘back page arrow’!
Don’t go yet:
Once a visitor has browsed through your website, why not encash on someone else’s site? Give him a link to your affiliate’s site through an exit pop-up. This is a time when he is the least busy on a site. Since he is not checking out anything else on your site, he is likely to check out the link you give him! Something like this:
“Secure your family before you leave! The Smily Health Insurance covers everyone from a 6-month to a 60 year old.”
Bingo! You’ve caught him thinking over it!
These were some simple, but intelligent ways to place an affiliate link that works. Once you are into the business, you will be able to device your own techniques.
